GIF and JPEG differences (one page)

Create a page which will have at least four images on it. Find a natural looking image on the Internet that is saved in JPEG format. Place that image on your page with a link indicating where you got it, and its size in kilobytes. Open the image with Paint Shop Pro and save it as a GIF image (89a). Place this image on the page with its size in kilobytes.

Use Paint Shop Pro (or whatever you like) to create a simple 4 color image (saved at 8 bits/pixel) and save it as both a JPEG and a GIF image. Put the images information near the images like you did the previous two. Add some commentary regarding the sizes and their suitability for Web use. Don't worry if you create something that is not the Mona Lisa, you've seen my attempts at art!

Animated GIFs (one page)

Using the information contained in the help file of the Microsoft GIF Animator create a page with an animated GIF you've created yourself using the Microsoft GIF Animator that we should have available in the lab.

In the same page I would like to see each one of the original images used to create the animated GIF as well as the GIF itself. You should use at least 6 individual GIFs to create your animated GIF. This means that your page will have at least 7 images on it, 6 still GIFs and 1 animated GIF.

Image Maps (one page)

Create three images map on one page to navigate between the three pages you've created and something to email yourself. There should be three maps, one client-side map, one server-side map, and one client/server side map. You can use Paint Shop Pro to create your images. I expect you to use at least one triangular, rectangular, and polygon shaped region in your image map. Use the "MapEdit" software to help generate your image maps. Be sure to look at the output of the software so you understand what it's doing!

Notes:

  1. The path for the server side image map program is: /cgi-bin/imagemap
  2. The server type is NCSA.
