3.1 Overview

Previous efforts to automatically detect the intracranial boundary and correct intensity variations due to RF inhomogeneity in MRI volumes are reviewed in this chapter. No fully automatic detection technique exists that accurately finds the intracranial boundary everywhere in 3D MRI scans of the head. Several methods exist for modeling and correcting the intensity variation due RF inhomogeneity.
