Moderator: On this problem, the panel were faced with a minor dilemma.
Steve Weinstein: 4NT. . . not happily. If they had raised to 4, I would feel like 4NT was automatic. In this auction, I am less certain, but I don't want to be minus 140 when we're cold for slam.
Larry Cohen: 3NT. Hopefully, partner won't get us to spades (he should have at least 6 if he does). Good partners will have enough for me to run one of the minors. Great partners will have enough for me to make nine or more tricks.
Kerri Sanborn: 4. I would like to bid an unusual 4NT, but the five-level is too high - too many losers. 3NT could work, but it is 'out there'.
Stephen Vincent: Pass. Maybe partner will be able to reopen. You can be sure that anything you say will elicit a spade call from partner.
Craig T. Wilson: Dbl. Will bid 4 when partner bids 3.
Anssi Rantamaa: Dbl. When partner bids spades, correct to 4 and hope partner figures it out.
Monica Angus: Pass. Hope we can beat this but not sure enough of that to dbl. Don't think we can make a game and pard might be enticed to bid game if I bid 4.
Jake Grabow: 4NT. For either minor.
Brooke Wheelan: 4. . . followed by 5 if I get a chance.
Larry Meyer: 3NT. Try for the most likely game.
Stuart Carr: 4NT. I hope 4NT shows the minors.
Andrew Krywaniuk: Pass. Take our plus, maybe even +200. Any bid now could easily get us overboard.
Bob Kuz: 4NT. Since 3NT is to play, I have no convienient way to show my hand, might as well get to the right strain even if the wrong level.
Norm Tucker: 3NT. What's your best minor partner?
Mike Roberts: 4NT. Hopefully worth overbidding to get to the right strain.
Brian Zietman: 4NT. No point in doubling as partner will bid spades.
Timothy Wright: 4NT. While partner could have long but poor spades, it is more likely that she has 2 hearts and 5 or fewer spades.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 4NT. Both minors. Maybe too high, but probably better than defending.
Maurice Ormon: 4NT. Of COURSE partner knows I have the minors!
Gareth Birdsall: Pass. If we can make something then we have a good chance of going +200 on defence.
Chris Diamond: 4NT. Nobody likes minors but bidding 3N here is too tough.
David Gordon: 4NT. Minors.
Amiram Millet: 4NT. Asking for a minor. They might have a spade fit and we may have a minor slam.
Joel Forssell: 4NT. Minors.
John Gillespie: Pass. The only plus I'm confident in is right here.
Plarq Liu: 4NT. I don't really want to double, how about unusual notrump?
Beverley Candlish: 4. If I double and partner bids spades, what will I do?
Kf Tung: Pass. You may collect +100 so why stick your neck out?
Bob Todd: 3NT. Pass, 3N and 4N are reasonable. Further bidding is a problem over 3N.

Moderator: Most of the panel strive for the vulnerable game on this deal.
Geoff Hampson: 3. I have a pretty good hand, but need too much to leap in diamonds. Hopefully partner has a 3 correction that I can raise.
Daniel Korbel: 4. What a hand we have! It's close for me between 4 and 5, offering partner a choice. Partner will bid any suit in which he has extra length (4 for 4+ diamonds, 4 with 6+ hearts, 4 with 4 spades). I will pass 4 but convert 4 to 5.
Mel Colchamiro: 4. I have three big assets: the two red queens and the singleton spade. But it's really a guess as to how many aces partner has. We're vulnerable at IMPs, so I push slightly.
Stephen Vincent: 4. Time to show some signs of life.
Jake Grabow: 3. Pass and lead Q is tempting - bidding our long suits gives partner the possibility to advance or describe the hand further or sign off in 3.
Brooke Wheelan: 3. Partner likely 6-4-3 or similiar great playing potential.
Larry Meyer: 3. Tell pard about my long suit and weak hand.
Andrew Krywaniuk: 3. Partner is pre-balancing on 4540 or 4531, so he didn't guarantee a monster. We definitely have some chance of game if the diamonds behave. Unfortunately my original pass is a big red flag, meaning the opps won't be afraid to double if 4 is wrong.
Bob Kuz: Pass. The LAW says they should be 1 or 2 down, depending if we can make 10 or 11 tricks so I will take a plus.
Norm Tucker: 3. The only sensible bid.
Mike Roberts: 4. Not really sure how hearts is going to play, but diamonds should just be top losers.
Brian Zietman: 3. Partner probably has 4-5-4-0 so we are headed for 5 or 6.
Timothy Wright: 4. Leaving the double in is not an option.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 4. Partner can raise with a max or invite slam with a supermax.
Gareth Birdsall: 4. If partner is void in diamonds we could easily have game so 3 is too pessimistic.
Chris Diamond: 3. Q makes hearts better than an open ended 4 call.
David Gordon: 3. Partner has extra values and short clubs. You have enough to bid 3 in response.
Amiram Millet: 5. A good fit and it's IMPs and Vul.
Beverley Candlish: 4. . . to let my partner know I have around 9 points and 6 diamonds.
Kf Tung: 3. You have good diamonds. 3 will make if pard passes, and if he bids 3 then you can propose 3N.

Moderator: The age-old choice of rebidding the 6-card spade suit or the 4-card heart suit. The panel tries to survive one round of the auction.
Jill Meyers: 3. I hate bypassing my four-card heart suit, but I don't have enough to jump shift, and I am concerned that if I bid at the two level, it will go all pass.
Steve Robinson: 3. Vulnerable at IMPs, you can overbid in order to get to a bad game. 3 does not promise five hearts, and partner can bid 3 to find out how many hearts I have.
The Sutherlins: 2. Not good enough to jump shift. A 3 bid misses a good vulnerable game when partner has one or no spades and four hearts.
Stephen Vincent: 2. Hoping partner will strain to keep the bidding open.
Jake Grabow: 3. . . game forcing, bringing the second suit into play - aiming for major or NT game.
Brooke Wheelan: 3. . . if forcing; if not 4.
Larry Meyer: 3. This hand is worth an upgrade to jump-shift strength.
Andrew Krywaniuk: 2. Just make your normal bid. Sure this loses when partner passes with 13(54), but it gains when partner can raise hearts.
Bob Kuz: 3. A bad hand for standard bidding.
Norm Tucker: 2. Such a lovely suit.
Mike Roberts: 3. Ugh. 3 is the right value bid, but I can't ignore the heart(s) in February.
Brian Zietman: 3. Not missing game with this beauty.
Timothy Wright: 2. 3 is a gross overbid here. If partner runs to 3, rebidding 3 should be all right, but 2 might be the last making contract.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 2. . . and I'll go on with this hand over any answer but pass, selling it as a max 6-4 majors.
Chris Diamond: 3. Saw this or very similar before. The arguments for a strong jump shift are good.
Amiram Millet: 3. The hand is stronger than its HCP.
John Gillespie: 3. Best on values. 2 and 3 are under- and over-bids.
Plarq Liu: 3. Strength showing.
Beverley Candlish: 3. With my singleton club, a 6 card spade suit and 16 HCP's, I would jump to 3.
Kf Tung: 3. Very good if pard bids 4, otherwise you will end up in 4.

Moderator: The panel balance a second time with these cards: the majority with 3; the minority with double.
August Boehm: 3. We should have an eight-card fit in either hearts or clubs. If partner has one heart, he holds five clubs, assuming that with 1-4-4-4, he opens 1.
Roger Lee: Dbl. If partner sits this out, he'll probably be 4-1-3-5 with decent spades, and we'll have reasonable chances on defense. If he pulls to 3 or 3, I'm not unhappy.
Stephen Vincent: Pass. I've described my hand and feel I've done enough. The diamond holding in particular is suspect.
Jake Grabow: Dbl. Takeout.
Brooke Wheelan: 3. No defence, some offence.
Larry Meyer: Dbl. It is our hand - protect pard in case he has good defense for spades.
Andrew Krywaniuk: Pass. Doubling them for down 1 doesn't protect our plus. I'm not bidding 3 on this pile of trash, so hopefully we can't make 2 either.
Bob Kuz: Dbl. The modern day 'do something intelligent partner' because I can't.
Mike Roberts: Dbl. Extras, competitive.
Brian Zietman: 3. Hello partner. Are you there? Wake up please.
Timothy Wright: Dbl. This is a Spike Lee double--do the right thing, partner.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 3. Partner should correct to hearts on a doubleton (preferably with an honour).
Maurice Ormon: Dbl. Do the right thing partner.
Chris Diamond: 2NT. Not quite sure what this means except I want to compete more.
David Gordon: 3. North is now marked for a minimum of 4 clubs.
Amiram Millet: 3. I hope to punish 3.
Plarq Liu: Dbl. We want partner to bid something.
Beverley Candlish: 3. No one is vulnerable. My partner opened the bidding, I have 3 clubs so will compete to 3. It could be that partner is sitting with 4 or 5 spades.
Kf Tung: 3. Give me +110!

Moderator: What does partner have for this auction?
Betty Ann Kennedy: 3. I've already said I have a balanced hand with opening points, so 3 is forcing.
Mike Lawrence: 3NT. This auction should show a good hand from North. If he has a weak double, he just passes 2NT.
Barry Rigal: 4. Finally, an easy one! If we cannot cuebid here, when can we? We showed up to a minimum opening and partner is unlimited. By the way, spades can't be our trump suit. Partner would cuebid 3 with both majors, even if he was 4-5 in spades and hearts.
Stephen Vincent: 3NT. 3NT is so often the right contract.
Jake Grabow: 3NT. 3 would make a notrump game unlikely.
Brooke Wheelan: Pass. Partner has already bid my hand, no need to punish him/her.
Larry Meyer: 3NT. Pard's hearts will still take tricks in notrump.
Andrew Krywaniuk: 3. Seriously... what else?
Bob Kuz: 3NT. At both 3 level contracts the same tricks will be taken.
Norm Tucker: 3NT. Should be do-able; my hearts not enough for heart game.
Mike Roberts: 3. Can't partner still have 4 spades?
Brian Zietman: 3NT. Not missing 3NT at matchpoints.
Timothy Wright: 4. Why did I bury my spade suit by bidding 2NT? Now we're almost out of room, and I have to guess--3 or 3NT could be right.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 3NT. Probably best contract.
Chris Diamond: 3NT. Still looks NTish.
David Gordon: 3. Pard's 3 bid should be forcing. Since you forgot to show your spades on the first round you can show them now.
Amiram Millet: 4. Showing a club control for hearts. Looking for a slam.
Plarq Liu: 3. Describe my hand naturally.
Beverley Candlish: 4. I described my hand. Partner doubled and bid 3. It is obvious she wants to play in hearts.
Kf Tung: 3. You have 4 spades, and you pass the buck back for pard to decide on 3N, 4 or 4.
Bob Todd: 3. . . in case partner is 6-4 and slammish.
