What's New?From Ken: [2025-06-20]
Vancouver Bridge Centre – June 2025NEW LOCATION As of July 1, 2025Shaughnessy Heights United Church — 1550 West 33rd AvenueShaughnessy Heights United Church at 1550 West 33rd Avenue in Vancouver will be our new location for the months of July and August. It is located just west of Granville on the south side of 33rd Avenue. Next cross street west is Connaught. Heading east from Connaught is the Manse, the Sanctuary, the Chapel, and then the entrance to the hall where will be located, i.e., closer to Granville than Connaught. The accessibility ramp is located on the east side of the church. (There is an accessible washroom.) NOTABLE DATES: June 27, Friday: Last game at Peace Centre. June 30th, Monday: Moving Day. I would appreciate any help I can get for the move and to set up at the new location. (the Church is not available on Saturday or Sunday of that weekend so the move and setup all happens on Monday. July 1, Tuesday, Canada Day at 10:30. First game at the new location. PARKING: The church does not have a parking lot. Street parking is plentiful on neighboring streets. It is legal on 33rd Avenue but the block the church is on is very narrow and the street is busy. Extreme caution would be required when exiting or entering your vehicle. There is parking on both sides of Granville Street, which is closest to the entrance. Caution exiting vehicle. West 33rd west of Connaught has ample, safe parking. The side streets (Connaught, West 34th, etc.) all have lots of room. REVISED GAME SCHEDULE: All games begin at 10:30 am. Card fees remain at $12 (including GST), cash only.Monday: 0-199er The new playing site is larger with high ceilings, windows, and carpet. It should be much quieter than the present room. I would like to stay there beyond August but it seems unlikely at the moment due to other bookings and the fact that we would have to pack up and set up most days that we operated. It was also confirmed to me this week that the Peace Centre is not available in the fall. Although they were pleased with us bridge players as tenants. I will be looking for a site for the fall over the summer months. If everyone can keep eyes and ears open for a suitable site it will make the task easier. Parking and not having to set up and take down after every game are key factors. As well as reasonable rent. Ideal space about 1200-1500 square feet. SUMMER IMP LEAGUE: I would like to revive the IMP League in July and August (six week duration). On a Tuesday or Wednesday evening. I will need at least six teams to make it viable. Please let me know if you are interested in forming a team or playing on one.Thank you again to all of you for continuing to support the Vancouver Bridge Centre. I will do my best to provide a good space for our games. Best regards, Ken Lochang Maintained by
