What's New?

Vancouver Bridge Centre – August 2025

NEW LOCATION As of September 1, 2025

Hellenic Community Centre at the Greek Orthodox Church — 4500 Arbutus

The papers are signed. The new location is the Hellenic Community Centre at the Greek Orthodox Church at 4500 Arbutus (Valley Drive/30th Avenue). The No. 16 bus stops at the building on the east side of Arbutus.

The entrance to the Centre is via a ramp on the Valley Drive side of the building.

There is plentiful parking in the lot at the back and side of the building. Parking is also available on both sides of Valley Drive.

The space is not as large as our current location but it is bigger than the West 16th Avenue site. It is well lit with a floor to ceiling glass wall and it is air conditioned.

The schedule of games remains unchanged. Last game at West 33rd is Friday August 29th. First game on Arbutus is Tuesday, September 2nd. Unfortunately we cannot hold games on stat holidays in this space.

There is a possibility for a Saturday or Sunday evening game. Anyone for a Saturday or Sunday evening game? Could be full game or a “quickie” with a visit to a nearby pub afterwards. Harken back to the days of the Haida Bridge Club and the Jolly Alderman.

Moving day is Saturday August 30th. If you are not playing in the sectional and can lend me a hand that morning (about 10:30am) it will be much appreciated. It shouldn’t take very long as I have been decluttering over the past couple months.

We are on a three month trial period at the new place. If everything goes well, we like them and they like us, then it will become our home indefinitely.

Thank you to all the players for your continuing support. A good sign for the health of bridge is that quite a few of our new players are now comfortable playing in restricted and open games everywhere - and at sectionals and regionals. We continue to get inquiries about our program for new players.

Cheers,

Ken Lochang
