Moderator: Both the 6C and 6D bidders believe their call shows first-round control of the unbid minor as well. So what makes one call better than the other?
Steve Weinstein: 6S. Any attempt to look for a grand slam is just going to confuse partner. 5H didn't deny the DK, but how, exactly, am I going to pinpoint that it's the card I need? I wouldn't know I had a club void in this auction if I wasn't looking at it.
Drew Becker: 6C. I'm not stopping short of a small slam and am making one try for the grand. This promises first-round diamond control, so hopefully partner will bid seven with a perfecto.
Sylvia Shi: 6D. I never quite know what to do in these auctions, but I think I'm obligated to show my first-round diamond control. Partner is unlimited.
Ralph Buckley: 6C. Spades is the agreed upon suit. My 6C bid is telling pard I have a void in clubs.
Daniel Lyder: 6C. Silly problem. Depends on your cuebidding agreements with partner. I would bid 6C to show first round club control and a diamond control.
David Waterman: 6D. What else? I will just bid my hand.
Christopher Diamond: 6D. Trump ask?
Stuart Carr: 6D. Hope partner can bid 7S with the DK.
Larry Meyer: 6S. 6 level should be safe with at least a 9-card fit and first round controls in each suit, but I don't want to risk 7.
Paul Mcmullin: 6D. I do not know where partner is going --- I hope that this helps him get there. I have been wrong before.
Chris Buchanan: 6C. Looking for the DK.
Hendrik Sharples: 6D. I must have club control to be looking for a grand, hope partner is on the same wavelength.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 6S. I suspect a loser somewhere, possibly because of bad breaks in the side suits.
Mike Roberts: 6D. This feels like too much, and I doubt partner can bid 7, but I'll bid 7 over 6H.
David Gordon: 6S. Pard is looking for the DA.
Kf Tung: 6C. Partner shows a heart void and wants to try for 6S. You show a club void and try for 7S!

Moderator: The vast majority contract for the 9-trick game.
Larry Cohen: 5C. Partner could be light for his raise in competition, but with all of these controls and great playing strength, how can I not bid a vulnerable game at IMPs? We could even have play for slam opposite not much, say: Sx HJ x x x x DK x x CK x x x!
Mike Lawrence: 3NT. All I need is CK x x or perhaps CQ x x. I have too many losers to consider 5C. Second choice --- a distant one --- is double.
Daniel Korbel: 4S. Wow, this hand has certainly grown up. We might have a slam if partner somehow turns up with: Sx HA x x x x Dx x x x CK x x.
David Waterman: 4D. . . the value bid, with the added benefit of discouraging a diamond lead.
Christopher Diamond: 5C. At MPs I'd try 3NT. He needs perfect cards for slam.
Larry Meyer: 3NT. Expecting to play East for any missing club honours.
Paul Mcmullin: 5C. I do not see where to get tricks for slam, but certainly game has to be close!
Chris Buchanan: 4D. Lots of hands where slam is possible here so I will see what partner does after my cuebid.
Hendrik Sharples: 3NT. Thinking it would take a perfect maximum to make 6C, so going for the obvious 3NT.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 4C. But will I pass, double or bid over 4S if partner doesn't take action?
Timothy Wright: 3NT. I need partner to have a super hand to make 6C, and she might move over 3NT with that sort of hand.
Mike Roberts: 4D. I was going to just bid 5C, but just in case it can go 4D-4H-4S-6C....
Allan Simon: 3NT. Better odds than 5C. All I need is Sx x x HJ 10 x x Dx x x x CK x x . . . surely not too much to ask.
David Gordon: 5C. The opps' bidding suggests some ruffing value in pard's hand. The raise and heart bid by pard suggests 9 tricks in 3NT likely. More chances in 5C.
Kf Tung: 3NT. 3N is the easiest game for this hand.

Moderator: Stay fixed? Or go to your 8-card major fit? The panel are evenly divided.
Kerri Sanborn: Pass. Maybe the third round of spades is getting overruffed with a non-natural trump trick in 3H. It's one less trick we have to take.
Josh Donn: 3H. Partner shows 18-19 balanced as far as I'm concerned. That leaves us just a little bit short of game.
David Waterman: 3H. A guess. Pass, 3NT, 3H, or 4H all could be right. Take the plus.
Christopher Diamond: 3H. What's 2NT here nowadays?
Stuart Carr: Pass. Short a jack or queen, I think.
Larry Meyer: 3H. Let's play in our 8-card suit, but with my only honour card in the opps' suit, I don't want to encourage.
Paul Mcmullin: 3H. Pass (the cheapest disaster) is my second choice.
Chris Buchanan: Pass. Likely plays the same or better in NT.
Hendrik Sharples: Pass. I don't have much of a response without interference, and not clear that hearts will play better than NT, so I think it's time to let the auction die.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 3H. . . because I think it will play better than 2NT. (I may be very wrong.)
Timothy Wright: 3H. 3H describes this hand --- support but not a loud and proud single raise.
Mike Roberts: 3NT. I'll bite.
Allan Simon: Pass. At matchpoints I wouldn't think of raising. At IMPs, I might.
David Gordon: 3H. Defender likely overruffs spades.
Kf Tung: 3H. 9 tricks in hearts and 8 tricks in NT!

Moderator: The majority force with 4C.
Jill Meyers: 4C. Wow, I love my hand! I'm not stopping below 6D. Partner is a passed hand, but if she has SK Q and DA x x x x, I want to be in seven.
Barry Rigal: 5C. I'm going to take a shot at slam in diamonds; but my partner will now know I have a club void and might be able to set the contract better than me.
Steve Robinson: 6D. Can't invite slam or bid Roman key card Blackwood for diamonds, so I'll guess with 6D.
Daniel Lyder: 4D. Should be forcing.
David Waterman: 6D. This won't score well in a bidding contest but it is the practical bid.
Christopher Diamond: 6D. If I'm guessing, I guess slam.
Larry Meyer: 3D. Playing in our 9-card minor suit at the 3-level opposite a passed hand sounds good to me.
Paul Mcmullin: 4D. Partner is a passed hand, but surely this is worth an invitation.
Chris Buchanan: 5C. 6 controls, club void and double fit --- looking for slam here.
Hendrik Sharples: 6D. Overbidding again, but what I think (hope) I can make. I wish 4D was forcing.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 4D. Should set trumps (though: what do I do if 4S comes back?) and the short clubs are inferentially known to partner. Hopefully he can do something.
Timothy Wright: 4C. I want to play in game (at least), but which strain depends on how many spades partner has.
Mike Roberts: 6D. I'm hoping for more than 'at least' distribution.
Allan Simon: 4C. My next call may be 6D. It is probably too hard to find out if partner has all the missing fillers for seven. But there is no harm in trying.
David Gordon: 5D. I think pard needs too much for a slam.
Kf Tung: 4C. Cue bid and then bid 5D to show a mild slam interest.

Moderator: The panel are split between showing hearts and the strength-showing cuebid.
Roger Lee: 2S. I want to sort out strain with a low-level force, especially at matchpoints, where committing to clubs when 4H makes but 6C doesn't is a total disaster.
Mel Colchamiro: 3H. The game is matchpoints. If I bid this as a club hand, who is gonna tell who that we don't have a heart control opposite: SK x x Hx DK Q x CQ J x x x x?
David Waterman: 2S. I have good rebids over all partner's responses.
Christopher Diamond: 2S. I'll try to find some heart support after this. 3H bulky and I don't know if 3C after 2H/2NT is a GF.
Larry Meyer: 3H. Make a jump rebid with a long suit with decent intermediates and a full opener.
Paul Mcmullin: 2H. 7 card suits are always worth a rebid; I can show clubs later if he is not interested in hearts.
Chris Buchanan: 2S. Tell me more partner.
Hendrik Sharples: 3H. I play 2C promises a rebid, in which case I'd bid 2H, but I don't think that agreement is ACBL standard.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 2H. 2C should promise another bid. Then I can choose from going on in hearts or clubs, having already shown my extra length.
Mike Roberts: 2H. 2C promised a rebid over 2H, and I need time to explore.
Allan Simon: 2S. It is vital to establish a game force before exploring the trump suit and the level.
David Gordon: 2S. Give partner some encouragement.
Kf Tung: 3C. Your club support is what partner is anxious to discover. The next step will point to the level he wants to explore.
