Moderator: 2 garnered a lot of votes despite being a heart light. How come?
Mike Lawrence: 2. The biggest downside to this conservative bid is that we miss a game. I see no source of fast tricks for notrump, so it's 2 or pass. And I have no spade spots. The advantage to 2 is that it's a bid that partner will raise with anything extra, and that extra might be a fifth heart.
Josh Donn: Pass. This can work well or it can work out terribly, depending on partner's shape. But because I have no other good bid anyway, now is when I like to take the chance. They might even finesse into partner's jack or 10 of spades.
Sylvia Shi: 2NT. Overbid? Underbid? Misrepresentation of my hand? I think 2 is just too much, but it could allow us to get to 5 when it's right.
Stephen Vincent: 2. Ugly.
David Waterman: 2NT. This is right on values.
Anssi Rantamaa: Pass. Might be the only plus available on this misfit.
Christopher Diamond: 2. Maybe should have opened 1NT. Nothing appeals now. Try hearts first, NT if I get a chance.
Larry Meyer: 2. If pard can provide half a spade stopper, 3NT should have a reasonable play.
Eugene Chan: 1NT. Slight underbid. Negative doubles DO NOT PROMISE 4 cards in the other major. Popular flavour of the day is to open these 1NT anyways.
Andrew Krywaniuk: 1NT. I tend to open these hands 1NT to avoid rebid problems.
Hk Ho: 1NT. Pard may not have much for his negative double. A x x x and K x will be enough to make 1NT. I'm not inclined to play 2 with a 4-3 fit.
Perry Khakhar: 2. You can easily have a game here, but it is not guaranteed. I need to explore further! I can visualize a -50 result, but I need to try.
Paul Mcmullin: 2. Would have been strongly tempted to open that 1NT.
Timothy Wright: 2. It's likely a 4-3 fit, but 1NT is too weak, and 2NT far too strong, for this hand.
David Gordon: 2NT. Make the value rebid. If partner bids hearts showing more then 4, bid 4.
Mike Roberts: 2. I hate everything, and secretly think pass is right.
Bob Todd: 2. I would bid 1N if it showed a strong NT. 2N is too much. Hearts should play well.
Plarq Liu: 1NT. Spades not strong enough for penalty.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 2. Values but no clear direction. Cue says that.
Allan Simon: 2. Everything else looks worse.
Kf Tung: 2NT. Invite for game. If partner retreats to 3 then 3N will go down.

Barry Rigal: 1NT. Not perfect, but doubling and correcting 2 to . . . 2NT(?) is hardly appetizing. Let's get the hand type across as best we can.
Daniel Korbel: Dbl. This hand is just too strong for a 1NT overcall. We have a good game opposite K x x x and another piece, e.g., K x x x x x x K x x x x x, and we will definitely be playing in 1NT if partner has a hand of that type.
Stephen Vincent: 1NT. Also ugly.
David Waterman: 1NT. Might be in the (slightly) wrong partial, but we will get to the right game if we have the values.
Christopher Diamond: Dbl. Can always scramble back to NT later if I have to.
Larry Meyer: 1NT. Tell pard about my point range and my heart stoppers.
Eugene Chan: Dbl. Flawed for 1NT overcall (overstrong and singleton club). With 4 cards in other major, overwhelming choice is a takeout double.
Andrew Krywaniuk: 1NT. Show my strength first and right-side the contract.
Hk Ho: 1NT. The suits are broken and the high cards are scattered. It's better to show the range and hope that pard can offer some help in clubs, if he passes 1NT. Double may hear 2 and leave us with no rebid.
Perry Khakhar: 1NT. No second choice.
Paul Mcmullin: 2. Another tempting offshape 1NT consideration.
Timothy Wright: 1NT. Partner could too easily leave me in 1 when game is making, and an offshape double has little appeal. Partner will strive to invite with a decent hand over 1NT.
David Gordon: 2. Bid spades next if given another bid.
Mike Roberts: 1NT. A slight underbid, but if I double and partner bids clubs, I would have to overbid.
Plarq Liu: Dbl. Strong enough to take out.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: Dbl. Can bid NT later.

Moderator: Several experts take a preference to diamonds by passing.
Larry Cohen: Pass. Not happy here, either. Yes, I could take a false preference to 3, but who is to say partner doesn't have six diamonds? I'd rather play a 6-2 than a 5-1 . . . duh! Because it's a misfit, I am OK with taking a low/conservative view. Also, not vulnerable, I'm not pushing for a game bonus.
Kerri Sanborn: 3. The thing about passing 3 is hoping for a trump lead to make the play a little easier. But given my hearts, it looks like that suit will be easy for RHO to lead.
Stephen Vincent: 3. Despite having two useful cards, this is unlikely to play well.
David Waterman: Pass. Nothing is better - especially non-vulnerable.
Christopher Diamond: 3. I have a lot of stuff so false preference just to keep things going. I'd actually like to bid 4.
Larry Meyer: 3. With no fit in either of pard's suits, I don't want to bid game.
Eugene Chan: Pass. Why did opener not balance with a double? Probably void in hearts. Still does not make this hand any better. Hope we can go plus in 3.
Andrew Krywaniuk: Pass. Hope partner can scramble for at least 1 spade ruff.
Hk Ho: Pass. Hope pard's new suit a the 3 level has 5+ cards.
Perry Khakhar: Pass. Partner is probably 6-5 or 5-5 in those 2 suits. We are in trouble, but this is as good a risk as any.
Paul Mcmullin: Pass. First cheapest disaster!
Timothy Wright: 3. Partner never reopens with a double when you need her to.
David Gordon: Pass. Misfit.
Mike Roberts: Pass. In a misfit, get out quick.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: 3. Best of bad possibilities.
Allan Simon: 3. With a very strong two-suiter partner might have doubled first. Also I expect bad splits in the pointed suits.

Moderator: A simple 4 . . . it has to be forcing here. Right?
Steve Weinstein: 4. There's only one thing highlighted in purple in my notes with Bobby Levin: 'Assume four of a minor is forcing in unclear situations.' I'll feel pretty sick if partner passes this, but I think as a free bid it has to be forcing; weaker hands just have to pass.
Mel Colchamiro: 6. I've scored zero before and may now again here, but I just don't see how 4 (forcing) or 4 will accomplish anything with me having three aces (yay) but a void in partner's long suit (boo).
Stephen Vincent: 4. Bit of a temporizing bid: the sort that scores well in bidding competitions but often leads to real world disasters.
David Waterman: 6. I am sacrificing my score in the bidding contest, in order to make the bid that is surely right at the table.
Christopher Diamond: 4. I really should bid a 7-bagger more than once. So . . .
Larry Meyer: 4. Those diamonds are worth rebidding.
Eugene Chan: 6. Might be cold for 7 or it might fail in 6. Let the opponents make the last guess to defend or take a save.

Hk Ho: 4. Pass is out of the question. Pard must have a good hand to respond at the 3 level. The red suits may not run for 3NT.

Timothy Wright: 5. I hope partner knows to go to 6 with x K Q x x x x K x K x x x

Ig Nieuwenhuis: 4. Too much tricktaking power to pass or double, though the possible/probable misfit makes dbl attractive.
Allan Simon: 4. The real question is: what will I bid over partner's 4? I plan to cue 4.
Kf Tung: 6. Good enough for a slam venture when partner shows strength. Partner cannot bid 3 without a potential entry.

Jill Meyers: 1NT. I'm not passing at matchpoints.
Roger Lee: Pass. I think the vulnerability makes it unattractive to come in, and with no convenient bid anyway, I'll aim for plus 100 or minus 80 when the alternatives are all worse.
Julien Levesque: 1NT. Balancing position . . . the only option viable vs a very flawed takeout double.
Stephen Vincent: 1NT. The spade holding constitutes a half stopper of sorts.
David Waterman: Dbl. If he bids 2 on a 4-card suit I will be sad - but anything else should work out.
Christopher Diamond: Pass. Too many flawed choices, might as well hope for a plus right here.
Larry Meyer: Pass. Pard has short spades and did not bid, so he must be broke, just like East.
Eugene Chan: Pass. Take the middle road. Does not appear to be the time to take aggressive action.
Andrew Krywaniuk: Pass. Spade length is never good here. Pass and hope to go plus.
Hk Ho: 2. You would like to have a spade stopper to re-open 1NT. Switch the spades and clubs and re-open with a dbl. Introducing a suit comprising the A K J 10 would be the only choice.
Perry Khakhar: Dbl. I will pass 2! That must be better than the stupid 1NT bid.
Timothy Wright: Pass. I expect to set this. Going +200 could even score very well.
David Gordon: Pass. Pard could not do anything over 1, so pass.
Mike Roberts: 1NT. 2 might be right, as might pass.
Ig Nieuwenhuis: Pass. Bidding might lead them to a better fit.
Allan Simon: Pass. Everything else looks worse.
