Running Ubuntu on a Windows Virtual MachineΒΆ
The following describes one way of running Ubuntu on a virtual machine on Windows.
- Save a copy of the latest Ubuntu ISO to a convenient folder on your computer.
- Download and install VMware Player 6. This version is free for personal use.
- Run VMware and create a new Ubuntu virtual machine using the ISO file you downloaded from step 1.
- When you have the virtual machine running, open a terminal window and follow the instructions on Canvas for installing software.eded packages.
- The editor I like to use in class is Sublime Text 3. It runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux. While it has an unlimited free trial use period, it is software that you are supposed to eventually pay for.
- You may want to browsse the Ubuntu Software Center for other software. For instance, various programming- oriented text editors and IDEs are available, such as emacs, vim, Bluefish, CodeBlocks, etc.
