Introduction
This class uses several tools to get its work done. This page is a pointer
to the various tools that we use. If a link doesn't work then try looking
for the tool at shareware.com. Please
note that the comments included on the tools are just that, comments, and
they are not the "TRUTH" about any of the programs. These programs
are presented in no particular order.
Programs
- Netscape Communicator
- This is the basic browser used in this class. It's best for most things
we do in here, but its implimentation of Cascading Style Sheets isn't as
good as Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer
- This is another browser used in this class. It's good at Cascading
Style Sheets but it is slower than Netscape Navigator for many things and
it has a poor JavaScript implementation.
HTMLpad
- This is a really good non-WYSIWYG HTML editor. It has lots of ways
to assist you in doing HTML while still letting you get "close to
the metal". I like to use a WYSIWYG tool for the initial page creation
and HTMLpad for the cleanup.
-
- GIF Movie Gear
- The GIF Animator program that we have in class is no longer available,
it has been folded into Microsoft
Image Composer. However, there are many
GIF animation programs available on the Internet. The bad news is that
most of them are shareware. GIF Movie Gear is just one of the programs
that you can use and it comes as a 30 day trial. That should be long enough
for this class. Incidentally, the new version of Paint Shop Pro comes with
a GIF animation program. However, at this time, the new Paint Shop Pro
is still in Beta.
Paint Shop Pro
- An image manipulation and processing program. Not as full featured
as Adobe PhotoShop but it is more than adequate for all but the highest
end use. Incidentally, it runs PhotoShop plug-ins!
-
- MapThis!
- A decent tool for creating image maps. Does client-side and both types
of server-side maps.
