Posting our questions on Discussion Forum on CourSys

This semester, we shall use the Discussion Forum on CourSys to post our questions (as opposed to emailing our questions to the TAs and to the instructor).

This way, everyone (in the same course section) gets to know the answer to all questions asked.

Discussion Forum is also where we can discuss with our classmates any CMPT 120 questions we have. However, before posting a question on Discussion Forum, check to see whether there are office hours currently happening. If so, it may be more efficient to bring our questions to these office hours as we may get answers faster.

Here are a few notes about Discussion Forum:

  • Everyone in CMPT 120 can post questions.
  • Make sure the question we are about to post relates to the material of CMPT 120. If so, make sure the question we are about to post has not already been asked and answered. So, before posting a question, see if this question has already been posted and answered by perusing Discussion Forum.
  • Everyone in CMPT 120 is encouraged to answer posted questions. TAs will be moderating Discussion Forum and answer the questions that have not been answered during their office hours.
  • Try to avoid questions like:
Here is my code, it doesn't work. Help!"
    A better question would be:
Hey, I'm trying to do ________, but I get this error ________.
I tried doing ________, but this is what happened ________.
I also tried doing ________, but this is what happened ________.
    Any ideas?

Bottom line: The purpose of Discussion Forum on CourSys is not to share code/solutions to exercises, but knowledge!
