STEAM is currently built for Linux systems (Windows and MAC versions may come at a later date), and involves the use of various pieces of existing software. In order to make STEAM work, you will require:

ttk: The tensor toolkit is used heavily in the template creation process and in the voxel-based analysis. The ttk scalar command is used to compute diffusion features like FA and MD; the ttk register_demons is an implementation of DT-REFinD: a full tensor deformable registration technique; and the ttk average_std command to compute the mean and covariance images.
FSL FLIRT: This well-known registration program is used to perform the initial affine registration of the FA images as well as applying affine transformations to images.
Camino: The reorient command in the Camino toolkit is used to reorient the tensors following the affine transformation of tensor images.
MATLAB: Additional pieces of STEAM's analysis engine are provided as MATLAB code.
GNU bash shell: The bash scripting language is used to tie the different steps of STEAM together.
