Mission Statement

1. General
   
   The goal of the IMP League is to provide an opportunity to play long IMP team matches in a non­tournament setting, that is, in preference to the more popular matchpoint club games. The IMP League is run similar to a "sports league," in that match results are cumulative for an entire season, to determine final standings and playoff matches.

   Fair play, good sportsmanship and a positive attitude are the top priorities of the IMP League, its Commissioner, and its participants. Gamesmanship and abusive stretching of the rules are considered bad sportsmanship. Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated, and should be documented and reported to the Commissioner immediately.

   Remember to try and keep the IMP League a social event and when in doubt, be considerate.

2. Match Reporting
   
   I intend to be firm (but tolerant) with lateness in match reporting this year. With extra time allotted in the schedules for the Christmas holiday season and the April wrap-up, there should be little excuse for late reporting. Remember that there is no penalty for playing a match ahead of the suggested schedule.

   Matches must be reported by the deadline of the next period and by May 1, 2001 or they will be forfeit unless reasonable circumstances have prevented the match from taking place.

   Matches whose schedule runs into the next period should be brought to the attention of the Commissioner. Excessive delays of matches by any team will result in a winning forfeit awarded to the non­offending side. Deliberate postponement of matches will result in disciplinary action.

   Finally, I request that team captains show compromise and tolerance when scheduling difficulties occur and remember that eight busy lives must agree to a single time to play bridge together.
