This work is concerned with the derivation of illumination-invariant, and hence shadow-free, image representations. We recover a full colour shadow-free image with the help of the invariant representation by first identifying shadow edges. Removing shadow edges from an edge-map of the original image by edge inpainting, we to re-integrate this thresholded edge map thus deriving the sought-after 3-d shadow-free representation.
