Title: Energy Efficient Protocols in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract:
In an ad hoc network, each node behaves as both terminal and router, and
is powered by a battery. So, the lifetime of each node is limited. Once a
terminal runs out of energy, the whole network might become disconnected.
Under these circumstances, protocols which can conserve energy while
maintaining satisfactory success rates are required. Recently, there has
been a lot of work on energy conserving protocols and some energy efficient
algorithms have been proposed. In my presentation, I will introduce these
algorithms briefly and introduce a new strategy--neighbor selection strategy,
which is based on my present research. This strategy tries to simply the
network topology by selecting a subset of neighbors of each mobile node.
Based on this simplified topology, existing protocols can run. The simulation
results show that this strategy is good for table-driven protocols so far.
