Abstract:

The abstract communication model is a model that structurally and
functionally simulates a network. It is general in the sense that it can
be used to model a specific link methodology or the entire internet with
the required "level of abstraction". Potentially such a model may serve
as a platform for the simulation and testing of network oriented
applications.

Such an endeavour necessitates the identification of parameters like
bandwidth, MTU, delays, reliability etc. that may be useful for
simulation.

This talk is based on a revised version of the following technical report.
