Subject: Friday's talk

Hi Qianping Gu,

I am Luc, a member of the network Modeling group.

If you still need a volunteer, I can give a talk this next Friday (2002/08/02)
during our weekly meeting.

Here is the title and the abstract of my talk:

TITLE: Analysis of user behavior from billing records of a CDPD wireless
network

ABSTRACT: Network traffic analysis and understanding of user behavior are
crucial for a better network management. We report on the analysis of billing
records collected from the Telus Mobility CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)
network. We present an analysis of billing data of approximately 20 days
spanning the Christmas and New Year holiday season. We used illustrative
analysis to graphically depict the data. We observed that network activity
exhibits periodicity on two scales: one is scale clearly related to the time
of day and the other is a weekly cycle. The clustering analysis, using k-means
algorithm, revealed that we could classify the users into four distinct
behavioral classes. Our results provide useful information about the access to
a real wireless network. These results are useful for creating workload models
for commercial networks access and for modeling network traffic.

Thank you,
Best regards,
Luc
