Thanks to everyone who attended the CFI brainstorming session last Friday. It was a productive meeting with lots of good ideas. Special thanks to our special guests Lou, Russ, and Edward for their expertise and to Duncan Sharp who sent me a great description of ad hoc networks and Bluetooth. More contributions to the letter of intent - MPLS, optical hardware, level 5 routing, IPv6, or anything else relevant - would be much appreciated. I have attached an initial draft of the proposal. It is still quite rough; I have to produce a more polished version by Friday afternoon. Everyone is welcome to contribute. I would particularly welcome suggestions and advice about the hardware. I will give a brief summary and status report at our meeting this Friday. My status report and any resulting discussion will not take up a whole meeting. Would anyone like to volunteer to lead a discussion on a research topic? It can be quite informal. Please let me know by Thursday. Our group is still growing with 7 new additions to our maillist this semester. We are now up to 28 members! (If you want to be taken off of the list at any time, just send me an e-mail.) Some of our members do not have card access to the Algorithms Lab. If you cannot get in for a meeting, phone the lab (291)-5938 and someone will come to open the door for you. Finally, please note that there are two talks in the CMPT 891 seminar series by Network Group members this semester. Everyone is welcome. My talk will be a (slightly) more polished version of a talk I gave to the Network Group last semester, so anyone who attended my talk last semester may want to skip this one, but don't skip Art's talk!
