In order to obtain a clear pass (C- or
better) your weighted combined score on the quizzes, midterm and final exams
must exceed 50%
Lowest-grade
rule: You may have
unpredictable circumstances that will not allow you to meet a deadline or make
a quiz. Since late assignments are not allowed and there are no makeup exams of
quizzes, you lowest quiz and your lowest assignment will be dropped.
Assignments
o
Assignments will
be assigned at least one week before it is due.
o
The instructor
will announce new assignments in class and update the web page.
o
Assignments will
be collected at the start of the class on the day it is due.
o
All assignments
are individual.
§ You are allowed to freely discuss ideas or approaches to a problem but you should not take notes from the discussion.
§ If you get help of this form from anybody (other than the TA), you must include an acknowledgement in your homework.
§ You may use any book or other publications to help you solve an assignment but you must cite your sources (except textbook).
o
Written assignments
should be stapled with a cover page with the following information:
§ Your name.
§ The course and term.
§ The assignment number.
§ The date the assignment is due.
§
The total number of pages (including cover
page).
o
Usually the instructor
do not extend due dates of assignments. If the instructor decided to change a
due date, the extension will be announced in class and/or via e-mail.
o
Late
assignments will not be accepted, except
for medical reasons (you must provide a note from your physician detailing the
period which you were ill).
o
Assignments are
subject to the lowest-grade rule.
Exams
o
There will be one
midterm, one final exam and some quizzes. Each exam will be closed-book.
o
The midterm will
around week 8 during class.
o
The final exam
has been scheduled for Friday, December 16, from
8:30am - 11:30am, location TBA
o
Makeup exams
(only midterm and final) will be given only if a student has a note from a
physician detailing the period of illness.
o
Errors in
grading. If you believe that an
assignment or exam has not been graded properly, you have two weeks to see the
TA or the instructor (you should talk first with the TA). Just remember that
corrections may result in a grade being lowered or raised. After two weeks,
your grade is set and will not be changed.
Quizzes
o
There will be several
short, in-class quizzes.
o
These quizzes
will be unannounced and you will not be able to make them up.
o
Quizzes are
subject to the lowest-grade rule.
GradeBook
o
It is the
student’s responsibility to keep track of his/her performance using the GradeBook.
o
Your GradeBook userid (username) is
the same as you Campus Computing id.
§
If you have used the GradeBook
in the past, you password is the same as the last time you used it.
§
Otherwise, your password is initially set to
your 9 digit student number (make sure you change your default password).
§
If you forget your password, send an e-mail to
the instructor requesting a “GradeBook password
reset”. Your password will be rest to your student number.
Cheating
Academic honesty plays a key role in our efforts to
maintain a high standard of academic excellence and integrity. Students are
advised that ALL acts of intellectual dishonesty are subject to disciplinary
action by the School; serious infractions are dealt with in accordance with the
Code of Academic
Honesty (T10.02)
