Course Description

This course provides an introduction to the issues related to the successful management of information systems. Topics include:

Course Text: Management of Information Technology, Third Edition, 1998, by Carroll W. Frenzel

The course text will provide the main readings for the course, although it may be supplemented with additional readings.

Course Grading

20% Assignments

5% Chapter review questions (due at the beginning of the class discussing the chapter)
5% Assignment 1 (1 page summary, 1 minute presentation)
5% Assignment 2
5% Assignment 3

30% Project: an IT case study, teams of 2

20% Research paper (10 page maximum)
10% Oral Presentation (15 minutes)

50% Final exam (must pass this to pass the course)

Edward Yourdon's home page is a good source for IT information on the web. Yourdon is a well-known writer who has written books like The Rise and Resurrection of the American Programmer, Case Studies in Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, and, most recently, Time Bomb 2000!. His pages contain links to a number of books and articles of interest.

Yahoo!'s daily news contains links to many souces for computer and technology news.
