Textbook: Modern Operating Systems - 2nd Edition, A. S. Tanenbaum, Prentice Hall, 2001

• We will cover Chapter 1-6 and, if time permits, Chapter 10.

Grading 

• Four  assignments count for 20%.
• One term project counts for 15%.
• One  1-hour mid-term exam counts for 20%.
• One  3-hour final exam counts for 45%.
• Late Policy
  • Assignments and project reports are due on the days stated in the documents describing them. Unless otherwise specified, all assignments handed in late will be penalized, with those handed in one day late losing 10%, and those being handed in two days late losing 20%. No assignment will be accepted more than two days late.

• All the assignments are in PS format. You need GhostView to open and print them.
• Different assignments have different weights. 
• Please contact the TA first if you have questions on marking.

Term Project      

• Project File (in PS format)
• Available in the beginning of November
• It is a team programming project.
• Each team can have at most 3 students, at least 1 student.
  • Marking is based on the quality of job, not the size of team.
• You can only use C or C++ programming languages.
• Your program must be executable on the UNIX or Linux machines in the CSIL lab.
  • The version of UNIX is Solaris and is Red Hat 7.3 for Linux. 

Mid-Term Exam. (1-hour)

• Time: 16:30-17:20, Friday, Oct. 17th, 2003
