Please note that these tables are generic examples. Depending on the look you want, there is probably a better way to create the table. However, these are just simple examples where you can play with the numbers and attributes to get different looks.

To get rid of the borders, delete the border attribute.To only show the vertical lines between the links, use the rules attribute and set it to "cols". To only show the horizontal bars between links (in the vertical example) set the rules attribute to "rows". See the xhtml 1.0 reference the wide variety of attributes you can use with tables.
