ACS Labs
In this course, you can use the ACS labs to complete your labs and assignments. These are some brief instructions on how to use those computers for this course. More information on the labs is provided by Computing Science.
Software
All of the software you need is installed. You can find it in the following locations:
- Python
- Start menu → All Programs → Applications → Python 2.7 → IDLE (Python GUI).
- WinRAR

.zip
file to open it; right click on selected files to create a.zip

- There is a shortcut to Firefox on the desktop.
Password Setup
Your password on this account is the same as your SFU Unix account. If you have a new account, you should be able to log in with no problem. If your account is older, you will have to synchronize your Active Directory password. This is a one time process and can be done on the web.
CSIL Labs
You can work in the CSIL lab in the ASB (map) where your labs are held as well. The programs you need are:
You will need an access card to get into the lab. You can get this from the Security office (near the bus stop in the centre of campus).

Storing Files
The H:
drive corresponds to your campus file space. You can use it to store your files. You can also use the D:
drive as temporary work space.
Proxy Setup
To access web pages outside of SFU, you need to make a configuration change in Firefox.
From the “Edit” menu, select “Preferences”. In the Preferences window, select the “Advanced” item, the “Network” tab, and click the “Settings…” button. Select “Manual proxy configuration” and enter an HTTP proxy.
The HTTP proxy server (first blank) should be proxy.sfu.ca
and the port (second blank) should be 8080
