Hotel and Travel Information

General information on getting to SFU Vancouver campus can be found here. If you are arriving by air to Vancouver International Airport (YVR), you can take a train (Canada Line) all the way to downtown Vancouver from the airport. Get off at Waterfront Station, which is a brief walk from Harbour Centre. The overall trip from the airport to Harbour Centre by train will take approximately 30 min. (If you prefer, you can also always take a taxi from the airport to downtown; the travel time by car from the airport to SFU Harbour Centre is about 25-30 min, depending on traffic.)

Hotel and Ride Sharing: Since it is very easy (fast and cheap) to take a public transit train from the airport to downtown, we recommend using the train. However, people may wish to share a room at a hotel close to the venue, to reduce the costs. For those willing to share a hotel, we have created a google doc where you can post your information and look for others to contact. (You may also use this google doc to share rides, if you like.)

Hotels: Here are a few nearby hotels. We recommend the Delta Vancouver Suites as the closest hotel to the conference venue (it is right across the street from the SFU Harbour Centre).

The following hostels are cheaper options:

For even more options for budget hotels and hostels, you may also consult this guide.

This map shows the hotel locations relative to the conference site.

Student Travel Allowance: In order to defray the costs of attending the conference, some travel allowances will be available for students. See the application form and instructions for details. The deadline for applying is May 5 May 9.

Visas: A visa to Canada may be needed for attending the conference, e.g., for citizens of China, India, and Russia. This website has the exact rules. If a visa is needed, please get in touch with your local Canadian consulate as soon as possible; the whole process may take several months. Please contact Dieter van Melkebeek (the CCC Chair) if you need a letter to obtain your visa.

Getting Around

The conference is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, in walkable distance from many cafes, restaurants, and shops. If you need to travel around, you may want to use public transit (SkyTrain and bus).

Parking: Parking downtown is scarce and expensive. If you plan to rent a car, please check with your hotel regarding available parking. Here is a map of some parking facilities close to Harbour Centre.

Food: There are many restaurants in the area. Please check the map of nearby restaurants, and take your pick. Vancouver is particularly famous for its Japanese restaurants, but you can find here almost any kind of food! Here are just a couple of places very close to the conference venue: Top of Vancouver restaurant is on top of the Harbour Centre (the commercial building with a tower, right next to SFU Harbour Centre) and has a great view of downtown; Steamworks Pub is a pub within less than a 5-min walk. For lovers of Japanese food, an excellent Japanese restaurant within a 5-min walk is Miku.
